The LWEA receives COVID-19 updates from multiple listserv type functions including OSPI, Washington State Dept of Health, King County Health and CDC.  Thankfully, we also receive a summary of those same communications from the WEA and have been monitoring those bulletins since March 2020. Based on our understanding of the information we receive, and in consultation with NorthshoreEA, BellevueEA, IssaquahEA, Mercer IslandEA, and the WEA, we will continue to negotiate with the district on COVID-related issues that impact working and learning conditions.

Some of these issues are clearly within the confines of our contractual negotiation rights. Others are issues where the District and the Association have a shared understanding of the facts/expert guidance, shared priorities, and a shared belief in the correct course of action to address the core problem. On those issues, we have signed Letters of Understanding or have reached verbal agreements. On other issues, the boundaries are not as clear. The Association has urged the District do everything possible to reduce the opportunity for person-to-person transmission.
