Newbie Nights - Differentiating Instruction for Student SuccessDifferentiated instruction can dramatically help students to succeed but good differentiation needs careful planning to make sure that students of all abilities are engaged. We will discuss strategies for how to work this into your already full workload so that it becomes a more streamlined and easy to accomplish task. From assessing to delivering content, making sure that we know our students is the first step to designing instruction that will help all of our students find success. Loan Forgiveness SeminarThe latest NEA Member Benefits research shows recent graduates are leaving higher ed schools with greater and greater debt. We know that student loan debt is a critical issue for our members. Teresa Muench, our expert from NEA Member Benefits will walk us through the process of Loan Forgiveness. This program is a result of NEA’s “Degrees Not Debt” campaign. Our NEA Member Benefits expert tell us that the only absolute disqualifier would be someone who has consolidated ALL of their loans into the private marketplace. WEA NBCT Renewal Jump StartWEA's National Board Renewal Jump Start is a 1-day training that provides key information to NBCTs who are engaged in the National Board Certification renewal process. This training helps candidates consider their growth and experiences since becoming a NBCT and how to relate this to the renewal process. This training is sponsored by the Lake Washington Education Association (LWEA). Send this form and your check (payable to LWEA) to Sheila Hagerman, in the LWEA office. Course fee is $50 for WEA members* — and 6 clock hours will be offered at no additional charge. * If space is available, non-members may attend—the fee is $200. |

Retirement Planning: The Start of the JourneyEveryone is on a different retirement pathway—some are just starting the journey while others can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This presentation will cover the basic concepts of retirement planning such as: identifying financial goals, investment vehicles, risk analysis, rule of 72, diversification, pre & post tax, debt and compound interest snowball. No individual counseling will be done at this session but NEA Member Benefits resources will be shared to help members get started on the retirement journey. Evidence and Artifacts in Your Evaluation: Stratgies for putting your best foot forwardThis session will focus on the types of evidence and artifacts that can be used to demonstrate the learning that is taking place in your classroom - as outlined in the Danielson Framework and the Washington State teacher evaluation criteria. Through discussions and examples, you will learn strategies that will help you showcase your instructional and professional practices during your evaluation conversations with your administrator. PGP & PGE: The intersection between certification & professional growthWhat is a Professional Growth Plan (PGP)? Who needs to complete one? How can PGPs be used for certificate renewal and salary advancement? How can I use my PGE work to satisfy the requirements for a PGP? Participants will receive hands-on instruction and will actually complete most of your professional growth plan right at the workshop. This workshop will be useful for those who are required to complete PGPs for certificate renewal, and other teachers who wish to use them for clock hour salary advancement. Each PGP is worth 30 clock hours. Learn how PGPs fit with the new STEM and TPEP professional development requirements for certificate renewal, and the role of PGPs in the Washington state certification landscape. Each class can be taken as a stand-alone (4 clock hours each) or take all three (1 college credit through SPU). Check out the Flyer for more details about each of the Shifts. This class is intended for any teacher who has their students reading text for understanding. This includes science and social studies, English, and language arts as well as elementary. We will have two of our vary own LWEA members leading this class and sharing their expertise so come out and see the latest around the ELA state standards. |
